Ingredients

  • 1¼ cup Pillsbury all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup Pillsbury whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp soda
  • ¾ cup cooking oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 cup 2 medium peeled, finely chopped apples
  • 1 cup 3/4 to 1 cup nuts
  • ½ cup topping powdered sugar
  • ¼ tsp topping vanilla
  • 3 tsp topping; 2 to 3 tsp milk

Method

  1. Grease and flour a 12-cup fluted tube pan.
  2. In a large mixer bowl, blend all ingredients (except the apples and nuts) until moistened; beat 3 minutes at medium speed. By hand, stir in the apples and nuts.
  3. Pour into the prepared pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 50 to 65 minutes until the center comes out clean when tested. Cool upright in the pan 15 minutes; turn onto a serving plate. Cool.
  4. Topping: In a small bowl, blend the powdered sugar, vanilla and milk until smooth; spoon over the cake.

Notes

Bake at 325 degrees, 50-60 minutes.
