Applesauce Spice Bars
Ingredients
- 1 cup applesauce
- ⅔ cup packed brown sugar
- ¼ cup vegetable oil
- 2 eggs
- 2 cup Bisquick baking mix
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- ½ cup chopped nuts
- ¼ cup browned butter glaze margarine or butter
- 2 cup browned butter glaze powdered sugar
- 1 tsp browned butter glaze vanilla
- 1½ tbsp browned butter glaze; 1 to 2 hot water
Method
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease an oblong pan, 13x9x2 inches. Beat the applesauce, brown sugar, oil and eggs in a large mixer bowl on medium speed, scraping the bowl occasionally, 1 minute. Stir in the baking mix, pumpkin pie spice and nuts. Spread in the pan.
- Bake until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean, about 25 minutes; cool. Spread with Browned Butter Glaze. Cut into bars, about 3x1 inches.
- Browned Butter Glaze: Heat the margarine over low heat until golden brown; remove from the heat. Beat in the powdered sugar and vanilla. Stir in the water, 1 teaspoon at a time, until smooth and of desired consistency.
