Ingredients

  • 2 cup sifted flour
  • 3 tsp double-action baking powder
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • ¼ cup margarine
  • ⅔ cup milk
  • 2 tbsp melted margarine
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup finely chopped nuts

Method

  1. Sift the flour, baking powder and sugar together. Cut in 1/4 cup margarine until the lumps are the size of peas. Add the milk and mix well.
  2. Roll out on a lightly floured pastry cloth to a rectangle 18x12x1/4 inches. Combine the melted margarine, brown sugar, cinnamon and nuts.
  3. Cut the dough in half crosswise to make two 9x12-inch pieces. Sprinkle half of the sugar-nut mixture on one piece of dough and cover with the second piece. Sprinkle the remaining sugar-nut mixture on top.
  4. Cut the dough in half lengthwise to make two 6-inch pieces. Cut crosswise into strips one by 6 inches. To form a round shaped roll, twist each layered strip and pinch the ends together to form a circle.
  5. Bake on a cookie sheet in a hot oven, 425 degrees F, for 20 minutes. Frost if desired.
