Ingredients

  • 1 cup rinse and drain raisins seedless raisins
  • 2 cup sifted all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp soda
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup sour milk or buttermilk
  • 3 tbsp melted shortening

Method

  1. Sift together the flour, salt, soda, baking powder and cinnamon. Stir in the raisins and nuts.
  2. Beat the egg lightly and mix with the sour milk and shortening. Stir into the dry ingredients, mixing only until all of the flour is moistened.
  3. Turn into a greased loaf pan, 8 1/2 x 4 1/2 x 2 1/2 inches. Bake in a moderate oven, 350 degrees F, about 1 hour.
  4. Allow to cool five to 10 minutes. Turn out onto a wire rack to cool.

Notes

Yield: one loaf.
