  • 1½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • ½ tsp soda
  • ¾ cup butter or margarine, softened
  • 6 oz 6 slices or 1 1/2 cups shredded American cheddar cheese
  • 2½ cup about 3 medium peeled, sliced cooking apples
  • ¾ cup sugar
  • ½ cup chopped nuts

Method

  1. Lightly spoon the flour into a measuring cup; level off. Combine the flour, graham cracker crumbs, brown sugar, soda and butter in a large bowl until crumbly. Reserve 1/2 cup crumbs. Pat the remainder into an ungreased 13x9-inch pan.
  2. Place the cheese over the crumbs.
  3. Combine the sliced apples and sugar in a medium bowl; sprinkle over the cheese.
  4. Combine the reserved crumbs and chopped nuts; sprinkle over the apples.
  5. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes until deep golden brown. Serve warm. Store in the refrigerator.

Notes

Very good. Yields 12-15 servings. High altitude (5200 ft): no change.
