German Chocolate Brownies
Ingredients
- ½ cup butter or margarine
- 1 pkg 4 ounces German sweet chocolate, broken into squares
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 eggs, lightly beaten
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- ½ tsp baking powder
- ¼ tsp salt
- 2 tbsp topping butter or margarine, melted
- ½ cup topping packed brown sugar
- 1 cup topping flaked coconut
- ½ cup topping chopped pecans
- 2 tbsp topping corn syrup
- 2 tbsp topping milk
Method
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and chocolate, stirring until smooth. Cool slightly. Add the sugar and vanilla; mix. Beat in the eggs. Mix in the flour, baking powder and salt. Pour into a greased 9-in. square baking pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 18-22 minutes or until the brownies test done.
- For topping, combine the butter and brown sugar in a bowl. Add the coconut, pecans, corn syrup and milk; mix well. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto the warm brownies; spread evenly. Broil several inches from the heat for 2-4 minutes or until the top is browned and bubbly.
