Golden Butter Cake
Ingredients
- ⅔ cup soft butter
- 1¾ cup sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1½ tsp vanilla
- 2¾ cup sifted Gold Medal Flour
- 2½ tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1¼ cup milk
Method
- Heat the oven to 350 degrees (moderate). Grease well and dust with flour 2 round layer pans, 9x1 1/2 inches, or an oblong pan, 13x9 1/2x2 inches.
- Combine the butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla in a mixing bowl. Beat 5 minutes high speed on the mixer or by hand until fluffy (5 minutes total beating time).
- Sift together the flour, baking powder and salt. Add alternately in four additions with the milk. (Start and end with the dry ingredients.) Beat on low speed just until smooth. Pour into the prepared pans.
- Bake layers 35 to 40 minutes, oblong 45 to 50 minutes. Ice with your favorite icing.
Notes
Golden yellow and deliciously rich with that true butter flavor. Worthy of a party and especially glamorous with fluffy white icing and snowy coconut. From Betty Crocker (Gold Medal Flour, No. 105).
