Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp chopped onions
  • a few grains pepper
  • 1 cup pineapple juice
  • 3 tbsp sauce cornstarch
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 3 tbsp vinegar
  • 6 tbsp water
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 4 slice pineapple, cut in pieces
  • 3 large green peppers, each cut into 12 or 15 strips lengthwise
  • 2 tbsp grated ginger

Method

  1. Mix the ground beef, egg, 1 tablespoon cornstarch, salt, chopped onions and a few grains of pepper; form into 18 small balls. Brown in a small amount of oil, then drain.
  2. To 1 tablespoon oil add 1 cup pineapple juice and cook over low heat a few minutes. Add a mixture of 3 tablespoons cornstarch, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 3 tablespoons vinegar, 6 tablespoons water and 1/2 cup sugar. Cook until the juice thickens, stirring constantly.
  3. Add the meatballs, pineapple pieces, green pepper strips and grated ginger. Heat thoroughly. Serve hot.

Notes

Also good with spareribs. Serves 4.
